What it is
Ipamorelin (developmental code NNC 26-0161) is a synthetic pentapeptide with the sequence Aib-His-D-2-Nal-D-Phe-Lys-NH2. It has the molecular formula C38H49N9O5, a free-base mass of roughly 712 g/mol (CAS 170851-70-4), and is normally supplied as a lyophilised acetate salt. Its structure carries three non-proteinogenic building blocks and a C-terminal amide.
Research context
At the receptor level ipamorelin is characterised as a selective agonist of the ghrelin, or growth hormone secretagogue, receptor (GHS-R1a). It is often described as the first growth hormone secretagogue with GHRH-like selectivity in the pharmacology literature. Because it acts on a different receptor from GHRH analogues such as CJC-1295 and tesamorelin, it is frequently studied alongside them.
