What it is

MT-II is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide, a structural analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. Its sequence carries an N-terminal acetyl group, a norleucine residue and a lactam ring closed between aspartate and lysine, terminating in a C-terminal amide. The molecular formula is C50H69N15O9 with a free-base mass of about 1024.2 g/mol, and it carries the CAS number 121062-08-6. The C-terminal amide is the key structural marker that distinguishes MT-II from the closely related free-acid peptide, which differs by only around 1 Da and shares the same ring, so both HPLC and mass spectrometry are needed to confirm identity.

Research context

MT-II is offered strictly as a chemical reference material for in-vitro laboratory research by qualified professionals, for example in receptor-binding and analytical method work on melanocortin-class peptides. No use in or on humans or animals is intended, described or supported. This is a research chemical and is not for human use.

Research activity data from NIH

242 studies indexed on PubMed (NIH) for MT-II as of August 2026. A measure of research volume only, not a claim of efficacy.

Handling and storage

Supplied as a lyophilised powder. For research handling the powder is reconstituted with bacteriostatic water; store the lyophilised material cold and protected from light, and treat any reconstituted solution as cold-chain dependent and short-lived.

Testing and quality

Supplied with a Certificate of Analysis stating salt form and residual solvent, HPLC purity with chromatogram and mass spectrometry confirmation, which matter here because of the near-identical partner peptide. Supplied for laboratory research use only. Not for human or animal consumption.

Frequently asked questions

What is MT-II?
What it is
MT-II is a synthetic cyclic heptapeptide, a structural analogue of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone. Supplied lyophilised for laboratory research only.
What does the research say about it?
242 studies indexed on PubMed (NIH). We link the live record so you can review it. No health claims are made.
Is MT-II legal to buy in the UK for research purposes?
Yes. Not a licensed medicine; supplied as a research chemical for laboratory research use only, to researchers aged 18+. Not for human or veterinary use.
How do I reconstitute it?
Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water; the volume added sets the concentration. See our reconstitution guide. No dosing guidance is provided.
What testing has been done on this product?
Third-party tested (Janoshik): HPLC purity with chromatogram and mass-spec identity, per-batch Certificate of Analysis, QR code on the vial linking to it.
How should I store it and what should it look like?
Store cold and dark (−20 C long term); keep any reconstituted solution refrigerated. A white to off-white lyophilised powder is normal, giving a clear colourless solution once reconstituted.
