What it is
Thymosin alpha-1 (Talpha1, also known as thymalfasin) is a 28-amino-acid peptide with a naturally acetylated N-terminus, generated in the body by cleavage of the larger precursor prothymosin alpha. The sequence is Ac-SDAAVDTSSEITTKDLKEKKEVVEEAEN. It is highly acidic, rich in aspartate and glutamate, and contains no cysteine, so there are no disulfide bridges. The molecular formula is C129H215N33O55 with a free-base mass of about 3108.3 g/mol, and it carries the CAS number 62304-98-7. The N-acetyl group is part of the authentic molecule and should be confirmed rather than assumed.
