What it is
BPC-157, also known as Body Protection Compound-157, is a synthetic 15-residue linear peptide (sequence GEPPPGKPADDAGLV) with the molecular formula C62H98N16O22 and a free-base mass of roughly 1419.5 g/mol. It is a proline-rich sequence that partially corresponds to a protein found in human gastric juice. The peptide contains no cysteine, so it carries no disulphide bridges, and it does not bind metal ions.
Research context
In the published literature BPC-157 is characterised as a pro-angiogenic and cytoprotective peptide. Preclinical work describes activity at the VEGFR2 receptor and the Akt-eNOS nitric-oxide axis, alongside effects on fibroblast behaviour and cell migration. The body of evidence is predominantly rodent and in-vitro, and much of it originates from a single research group. Handling and storage
Supplied lyophilised for reconstitution with bacteriostatic water as a research-handling step. Store the lyophilised powder cold and protected from light; reconstituted peptide is less stable and is cold-chain dependent. BPC-157 ships as free base, acetate or arginate salt, and the counterion changes the observed mass, so the salt form should be confirmed on the Certificate of Analysis.
