What it is

KPV is the tripeptide Lys-Pro-Val, corresponding to residues 11 to 13 (the C-terminal fragment) of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). Its molecular formula is C16H30N4O4 with a free-base mass of about 342.4 g/mol (PubChem CID 125672, CAS 67727-97-3). With only three residues and no cysteine, it forms no disulphide bridges, and unlike the parent hormone it does not carry the sequence associated with pigmentation.

Research context

In the research literature KPV is described as an anti-inflammatory tripeptide that is taken up by the PepT1 di/tripeptide transporter and reported to act on NF-kB and IKK signalling, independent of the classic melanocortin receptors. The available evidence is drawn from cell and rodent models, with gut and skin inflammation the most studied contexts. This description covers the molecule for in-vitro laboratory investigation only and makes no claim of any effect in humans or animals.

Research activity data from NIH

114 studies indexed on PubMed (NIH) for KPV as of August 2026. A measure of research volume only, not a claim of efficacy.

Handling and storage

Supplied lyophilised, usually as the acetate salt, for reconstitution with bacteriostatic water as a research-handling step. Store the lyophilised powder cold and protected from light; reconstituted peptide is less stable and cold-chain dependent. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.

Testing and quality

Every batch is third-party tested. Because short peptides are easy to mis-synthesise, the Certificate of Analysis reports HPLC purity with chromatogram and mass-spectrometry identity (expected versus observed mass keyed to the Lys-Pro-Val sequence), along with the stated salt form.

Supplied for laboratory research use only. Not for human or animal consumption.

Frequently asked questions

What is KPV?
What it is
KPV is the tripeptide Lys-Pro-Val, corresponding to residues 11 to 13 (the C-terminal fragment) of alpha-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (alpha-MSH). Supplied lyophilised for laboratory research only.
What does the research say about it?
114 studies indexed on PubMed (NIH). We link the live record so you can review it. No health claims are made.
Is KPV legal to buy in the UK for research purposes?
Yes. Not a licensed medicine; supplied as a research chemical for laboratory research use only, to researchers aged 18+. Not for human or veterinary use.
How do I reconstitute it?
Reconstitute with bacteriostatic water; the volume added sets the concentration. See our reconstitution guide. No dosing guidance is provided.
What testing has been done on this product?
Third-party tested (Janoshik): HPLC purity with chromatogram and mass-spec identity, per-batch Certificate of Analysis, QR code on the vial linking to it.
How should I store it and what should it look like?
Store cold and dark (−20 C long term); keep any reconstituted solution refrigerated. A white to off-white lyophilised powder is normal, giving a clear colourless solution once reconstituted.
